ST. LOUIS COUNTY — Thousands of union-represented workers on Sunday rejected The Boeing Corp.'s offer for a new contract.
More than 3,200 members represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837 overwhelmingly voted against the new deal in which Boeing had offered 20% general wage increases over four years and a $5,000 ratification bonus, as well as faster progression to the top of the pay scale for workers and more vacation and sick leave.
The IAM had recommended workers approve the contract.
“IAM union members delivered a clear message: The proposal from Boeing Defense fell short of addressing the priorities and sacrifices of the skilled IAM union workforce,” the machinists said in a statement. “Our members are standing together to demand a contract that respects their work and ensures a secure future.”

Unless a new agreement is reached, the current contract expires at 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Then, a seven-day “cooling-off period” would occur before a strike would begin.
Boeing and the IAM started negotiations last month.
