ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 1,056 total patients hospitalized with presumed or confirmed COVID-19 on Thursday, the second-highest daily number on record.
There were, on average, 1,020 patients in Missouri hospitals with COVID-19 each day over the past week, the highest level ever recorded during the pandemic.
The data lags three days, and not every hospital reports every day.

Recently, COVID-19 case numbers have seen the fastest growth in outlying parts of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓÆµ region.
On Thursday, the Jefferson County Health Department Board of Trustees agreed to hold a special meeting to discuss the county’s COVID-19 response, at the urging of health department director Kelley Vollmar. The board did not announce a date for the meeting.

In late August, the board passed a mask mandate for Jefferson County, and then revoked the ordinance at an emergency meeting the following day by unanimous vote. The decision came after residents raised concerns about whether the board had appropriately notified the public before discussing the ordinance, the county said at the time.
Jefferson County reported 60 new cases Thursday, reaching a total of 4,232. The county reported a 15.6% positivity rate for the week ending on Saturday, the most recent data available, compared with an 11.7% positivity rate statewide.
Missouri reported 1,365 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, reaching a total of 118,311 and five more deaths over the last 24 hours.
Illinois reported 2,257 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, reaching a total of 281,371, and 30 more deaths.
