ST. LOUIS — A man being held at the City Justice Center died Sunday. He was at least the 19th detainee there to die since 2020.
According to police, the man was taken to a hospital on Saturday after suffering an apparent medical emergency. After he was evaluated by hospital staff, he was taken back to the justice center.
On Sunday morning, he was found unresponsive in his cell and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said there were no obvious signs of trauma and that it appears that he had a medical emergency.
The case is being investigated by the Force Investigations Unit.
