ALTON — A 17-year-old girl was shot and killed early Friday morning near an apartment complex on Oakwood Avenue.
Alton police said they were called to the 900 block of Oakwood Avenue around 2 a.m. Friday and found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a nearby hospital and then flown to a Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ hospital but later died from her injuries in what Alton Police called "another senseless shooting with an innocent life lost," according to department statement.Â
Alton Police say they have a suspect and activated the Metro East SWAT team to serve a search warrant on a unit in the Oakwood Estates housing complex near where the shooting occurred. However, the suspect wasn't there when police entered the apartment. The person is still at large, Alton police said.
