TOWN AND COUNTRY — Demolition has started on the Woods Mill shopping plaza here to make way for a new condominium development.Â
McBride Homes plans to build 112 luxury condos, southwest of Interstate 64 and Highway 141, with retail shops. The condos will feature two to three bedrooms with a private outdoor space, according to a release.Â
The Woods Mill shopping center was built in 1977 but hasn’t been updated in years and was nearly vacant. Its fate has long challenged city officials.Â
The McBride plan, at least the third proposal for the site over the past year, was approved last fall.Â
The homebuilder’s initial pitch called for 68 single-family homes. But McBride withdrew the plan after officials said homes were too densely packed. Most homes in Town and Country were built on lots of one acre or larger.
