Regarding "No money, a headless dog: Vet explains virus outbreak at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ County shelter" (June 27): The article refers to a photograph of a headless dog in the euthanasia room of the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ County animal shelter, a picture that must have been taken by someone with access to that room.
Why was that photograph taken? When a dog bites a person and has no record of rabies vaccination, euthanasia and brain necropsy are required by law. But to take and share such a picture is cruel, exploitative and ghoulish if there is no legal or medical reason for doing so.
It sounds like at least one employee at the shelter is either ignorant of veterinary practice, psychopathically insensitive, or has some political axe to grind. None of these conditions benefit the animals. Any of these conditions in an employee of an animal care facility should be grounds for immediate dismissal.
