FAIRMONT CITY — A 22-year-old Fairmont City man lost his life when he was struck by a tow truck while riding his bicycle on Collinsville Road near Illinois 203 in St. Clair County early Friday morning.
Thomas S. Ripley of the 3700 block of Cookson Road in Fairmont City was identified as the victim by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
Ripley was pronounced deceased at the scene at 1:35 a.m., Dye said.
A tow truck driver and the bicyclist were traveling west in the left lane on Collinsville Road when the tow truck struck the bicyclist, Illinois State Police said in a news release.
ISP is handling the investigation.
