CLAYTON — A mother is suing the Hazelwood School District after her son was "drop-kicked" on the playground at school.
Kelly Martin's son was about 10 when a girl at Brown Elementary School ran at the boy from a distance, jumped up and kicked him, said her lawyer, Herman Jimerson.
"She jumped and kicked him real hard, like a drop-kick," Jimerson said. "It was pretty bad."
The boy suffered several injuries including a broken arm and shoulder, a concussion, a fractured clavicle and a lower back injury, Jimerson said.
The suit, filed Monday afternoon, said the boy was injured April 4, 2023. Jimerson said the family is suing the district because the school's teachers failed to properly supervise the children.
Jimerson said Martin's son had been bullied by the other student for some time before the incident.

The boy was treated at both Washington University and Mercy hospitals. His family spent about $2,600 on his treatment, the suit says.
Hazelwood School District did not immediately return a request for comment.
The lawsuit sought damages to cover the boy's medical bills.
