CLAYTON — ӣƵ County residents 62 years and older have until June 30 to apply for lowered property taxes this year.
The senior property tax freeze program, first launched in the county last year, exempts residents at least 62 years old from any increase in property taxes after 2024, according to the county’s website.
The county will calculate the difference between the base tax and the amount the resident would have been charged without the freeze, and give seniors a break on that amount.
The program doesn’t change how the county assessor values or calculates real estate, Sarah Siegel of the ӣƵ County assessor’s office told the Post-Dispatch last year. The assessor will still calculate their property’s value according to Missouri law, and you’ll still receive the same assessment notices even if your taxes are frozen.
